Yoga is definitely for you! This is one of the most common misconceptions that prevent people from coming to Yoga classes. You will be amazed how quickly your flexibility will improve particularly if you do Hot Yoga.
I have never been to a Yoga class before. What class should I start with?
You can start with a Beginner or All Level Open class. You can find these in our class timetable.
What style of class should I try?
We offer a variety of classes and recommend that you try a few different classes and teachers; your preference for style of class and teacher can be very personal.
Should I eat or drink before I come to class?
You should come to class on an empty stomach but not hungry. It is best not to eat anything heavy 1-2 hours before the class.
If you are practicing Hot Yoga, it is recommended that you drink plenty of water in the hour before the class, sip when required during and be sure to rehydrate after the class is finished.
What do I wear?
It’s important to be comfortable and have freedom of movement for all Yoga classes. You can either wear baggy, loose fitting clothing or tight stretchy leggings and tops.
For the Hot Yoga classes it’s entirely normal to sweat and we recommend tight Yoga gear as you will sweat a great deal and loose clothing can become uncomfortable. Women tend to wear shorts or leggings with vests or crop tops and men usually wear shorts. Please note: men must wear a top at all times in the studios for hygiene and comfort of the teacher adjusting.
What do I bring?
We provide everything you need, but you may prefer to bring your own mat (we sell these if you’d like to have your own). We also recommend you bring a bottle of water.
For Hot Yoga classes, we ask that you put a towel over your mat for hygienic reasons and to prevent slipping. We also sell specially designed Hot Yoga towels.
We have lockers, changing facilities and showers. We appreciate that after a Hot Yoga class you may wish to shower before going on to your next commitment. As we are a small un-manned studio with classes usually running with a tight 15-minute window between them, we ask that you are prompt to vacate prior to the next class leaving. Thanks for your understanding
Is it possible to lose weight practicing Yoga?
Power Yoga and Hot Yoga are great ways to have fun, gain flexibility, remove toxins and burn lots of calories in the process! Weight loss and maintenance will never happen if diet is not taken into consideration. It’s a 50/50 split between diet and exercise. By practising Yoga it will make you want to be healthier, as the endorphins released to increase your sense of wellbeing and stress reduction means you should choose healthier food options, as well as increase your energy levels
What if I have an injury or condition that might affect my ability to participate?
If you have a specific medical condition or injury please consult your doctor first and inform your teacher before class begins. Yoga can help you to heal more quickly and safely from a recent accident, injury or surgery.
It may be useful to arrive early to discuss your issues with the teacher, who will suggest ways to modify the practise or work with the injury safely, or may suggest that the class is not suitable until the injury has healed.
What if I am pregnant?
As with any new exercise it is not recommended that you take up something new whilst pregnant. However, if you have been practicing Yoga regularly (for at least 6 months) then there is no reason not to continue with some modifications from your teacher. Please inform your teacher to enable them to work with you. Please see our consent form for a more comprehensive list.
What if I am too old?
You are never too old!
How old do I have to be to start Yoga?
The minimum age is 16 years old (16-18 years must be accompanied in the class by an adult). Please call us before you come in if you have any questions.
Is there any reason why I cannot do Yoga?
Always check with your doctor if you have a concern and inform the teacher to the class. The only times that we would recommend not doing Yoga is:
